ABANDONED CATS LOOKING FOR LOVING HOME

Abbey and Blackie are looking for a good home. Because they are siblings who have lived together for many years, it is hoped they can be adopted together.
Two cats that were dropped off in front of the Rec Centers’ Administrative Offices on Feb. 26 are looking for a new adoptive family. It seems their owner had died and the owner’s children had tried but were unable to take care of them. The cats were dropped off in their cages with food and litter, and they were left during business hours so they were found quickly by staff members.
The cats, Abbey and Blackie, are sweet and loving, although a bit shy given their ordeal. They are both declawed.
If you are interested in learning more about these siblings or other pets available for adoption, please call Sun Cities 4 Paws at 623-876-8778.

PLATFORM TENNIS CHAMP VISITS SUN CITY WEST
Todd Ward, a board member and head of Clinics and Exhibitions for the American Platform Tennis Association, will visit Sun City West at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at the platform tennis courts at R.H. Johnson Recreation Center, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd.
Ward and his wife, Lindy, are among the top players in the nation. Ward was tournament director of the 2009 Platform Tennis Nationals and was formerly ranked fifth in the nation. Last year, he was ranked 11th in platform tennis. Lindy is a former Top 10 champ in the Ladies Open Division.
During the Wards’ visit, the Sun City West Platform Tennis group, a division of the Racquet Club, will offer demonstrations of the sport and challenges to the Wards. The group’s two oldest players – both in their 90s – and the group’s top two players will do their best against the Wards.
Also during this visit, Todd Ward will check the tension of the courts’ fencing and show club members how to test the tension in the future. Members also are hoping Ward will write an article for the nationally published Platform Tennis Magazine highlighting Sun City West’s platform tennis facility, which is the only one west of the Mississippi. This is a great opportunity to market Sun City West east of the Mississippi, where platform tennis is very popular.

VALLEY METRO LAUNCHES SCW BUS STOP
The Rec Centers would like to make all residents aware of a new bus service coming to Sun City West.
Through the efforts of the Sun City West Foundation over the past several months, an agreement has been reached with Valley Metro to have a bus stop at the Sun City West Foundation for bus service to Arrowhead Mall or Wickenburg, effective immediately. This is an additional, new stop on the existing Valley Metro Route 660 commuter bus service. All the buses on Route 660 can carry up to 16 passengers and are completely accessible to persons with disabilities.
The Sun City West Foundation is hosting a “Meet and Greet” orientation at 10:30 a.m. April 7 in the Webb Room of the Foundation Building to introduce residents to the new service. Attendees will have an opportunity to see the bus and meet the driver, while also learning how public transportation can work for them.
Along with the Valley Metro bus, the Foundation has a minibus available to transport riders to and from their residence to the bus stop during the Foundation’s normal operating hours. Reserving the time for pick-up on the Foundation bus must be made a few days in advance by calling 544-3020. Riders may also arrange for other transport to or from the bus stop to take advantage of the Valley Metro Route 660 line.
The new Valley Metro timetable (below) has several east and west bound routes. Free transfers are available between Route 660 and the Sun City West Foundation bus service.
Advance reservations are required for the Foundation service and can be made at
623-544-3020.
For more information about Valley Metro transit services, go online to www.valleymetro.org or call 602-253-5000.
