SUMMER GOLF CHALLENGE:
Sun City West’s Summer Golf Challenge tournament series came to a close at Deer Valley GC on August 28. Leading the field in each of the 3 flights were Mike Bowser (1st Flt), Bill Beckman (2nd Flt) and Frank Rivers (3rd Flt).
Playing from the blue tees, Mike Bowser shot a 73 (net 67) to come out on top as the gross champion in the first flight, winning by 2 strokes over Bart Hoolehan and Jim Peterson. Behind Bowser’s net 67 were 4 golfers tied at net 72: Hoolehan, Peterson, Dirk Prather and Glenn Warrington.
In the second flight, playing from the white tees, Bill Beckman was on fire shooting an even par 72 to capture the gross title, 3 strokes better than Duane Streit and Bob Wetter. Streit’s net 68 gave him the net title, leaving 2nd place gross to Wetter. Tying with net 69s were Wetter, Ed Neibauer, Jack Johnson and Sun City’s Dan Zaleski.
Congratulations go out to Frank Rivers for winning the gross division in the third flight. Rivers shot a 76 from the white tees to win by 3 over Dennis Peterson, both playing in their first Summer Golf Challenge tournaments. Peterson’s net 66 gave him the net title. That gave Harvey Faust 2nd gross with an 81, and 2nd net went to John Dawson, with a net 72.
